The Death of Worms

My building kind of lies at the downhill end of a grassy area, and when it rains, the water gets funneled towards the main door. When it rains, apparently, the worms in the ground get confused, and move onto the surface. The water washes them downhill, onto the concrete in front of the door. There, the worms die. In droves. There are a few hundred dead, small, skinny brown worms in front of my building's main door right now. Some of them are arranged in little piles of thirty or so, but most are just scattered around the little alcove by the doorway.
