Up Yours, Peace Corps!
It has come to my attention that there is an ad at the top of my page for the Peace Corps. This makes me smile. The school I go to (or don't go to, as the case may be) has an amusing history with the Peace Corps. In the 1970's, the Peace Corps came to recruit these young, radical, idealistic students. The Community Manager (think of it as a student body president that actually matters) held up the recruiters at gunpoint until they left. A decade later, the President of the college refused to allow the Peace Corps to recruit on campus again.
It's not that Antioch is anti-peace. Far from it. The Peace Corps was rejected because it represented a spread of American values to countries that may not want them. Colonialization with a smile, as the case may be.
Too cool for peace.
